Abstract

1,047,267. Amino acids. SMITH KLINE & FRENCH LABORATORIES. May 12, 1964 [May 16, 1963], No. 19802/64. Heading C2C. The invention comprises compounds of the formula wherein each of R 1 , R 2 and R 3 is hydrogen, hydroxyl, C 1-6 alkyl, C 1-6 alkoxy, benzyloxy, chloro, fluoro, bromo or trifluoromethyl, and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition, alkali metal and alkaline earth metal salts thereof. The compounds exist in either the cis or trans configuration, both configurations having d- and l-isomers. The trans compounds are prepared according to the following reaction scheme: and the cis compounds are prepared according to the following reaction scheme: in which B represents an alkyl group. Compounds in which any of R 1 , R 2 and R 3 represents a hydroxy group may be prepared by replacement of the benzyl group by a hydrogen atom in the corresponding benzyloxy compounds. Pharmaceutical compositions for oral administration, having hypotensive activity, comprise a compound of the invention together with a pharmaceutical carrier. The compositions may be in the form of tablets, capsules, sustained release preparations, solutions or suspensions..
