Abstract

1,046,590. Sawing. J.K.O. CUTTERS Ltd. Oct. 6, 1965 [Oct. 27, 1964], No. 43789/64. Heading B5L. A machine for cutting timber, plywood and the like, comprises a base 1 carrying or forming a work-table 2 and having a horizontal surface 3 at the rear of the table, a horizontal spindle 6 and motor carrying bracket 4 mounted for to- and-fro sliding and pivotal movement relative to the horizontal surface and having a pivotal linked connection 12 with the base, and means 18 for imparting a combined linear and pivotal movement to the bracket in a vertical plane so that its associated spindle and cutter or cutters 5 will have a vertical upward and downward movement. The horizontal surface is constituted by two spaced guides 3 along which rectangular cross-section slides 9 are movable. The slides 9 support a shaft 11 which has an axis 10 and pivotally carries the bracket 4 supporting the spindle 6 for the cutters 5 and an electric motor, the motor and the drive to the spindle being enclosed in a casing 7. The linked connection 12 is pivotally connected at axes 13, 14 to the base 1 and bracket, the distance between the axes 10 and 14, 14 and 6, and 14 and 13 being equal, axes 10, 14 and 6 being in a common plane 15, and axes 10 and 13 being in a horizontal plane 16, so that, when a piston-and-cylinder device 18 connected between the base 1 and bracket 4 is operated, the slides 9 move along the horizontal guides 3 and the spindle 6 and cutters 5 move vertically and cut a workpiece on the table 2 which is adjustable along the base by a hand wheel 17.
