Abstract

1,045,850. Fuel elements. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. Sept. 29, 1965 [Oct. 8, 1964], No. 41381/65. Heading G6C. An apparatus for effecting a vacuum-tight closure of an orifice 24 in an end plug 25 of a fuel element 26 by means of a pin 23 comprises a punch 21 to inject the pin into the orifice and sealing means 31 between the apparatus and the end plug. A vacuum is drawn via conduit 34 and compressed air is admitted through 6 to drive piston 9 downwards. The piston is returned by a spring 16. The pin 23 is supported in a resilient collet 22 prior to injection, and the collet is carried in a sleeve 28 urged downwards by a spring 30.
