1,044,758. Continuous-casting machines; breaking; shearing; rolling. DAVY & UNITED ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Aug. 4, 1965 [Sept. 9, 1964], No. 36924/64. Headings B3E, B3F, B3M and B3W. A continuous-casting mould 11 has at least three interconnected billet cavities 12, 13, 14, e.g. of rectangular section, the axes of alternate cavities 12, 14 lying in a plane and the axis or axes of the remaining cavity 12 or cavities is or are displaced from that plane. Adjacent sides 12A, 13A of adjacent cavities lie in planes which may coincide. If they do not, the plane of each such side may extend into the adjacent cavity, Fig. 1 (not shown). The billets are sheared from one another by passing the casting between a pair of cylindrical rolls 17, Fig. 1 (not shown), so that the webs formed by the mould interconnecting-passages 15, 16 are sheared and the billets are forced to a side-by-side relationship; alternatively, shearing rolls 18, 19, Fig. 2 (not shown), with hardened edges 20, are arranged so that one roll contacts each inner side of a billet.
