Feb. 23, 1965 [May 28, 1964], No. 7780/65. Heading F1F. A turbine liquid flow meter comprising a bladed rotor 1, Fig. 1 (not shown), rotated by the liquid flow in the conduit 2 in which it is mounted, includes upstream of the rotor, a flexible flow deflector or deflectors 3 whose angle of incidence with respect to the conduit axis is variable in dependence upon the liquid flow rate and progressively diminishes with increasing flow rate to extend the range of accuracy of the meter to include relatively low rates of flow. For meters having relatively longbladed rotors, meter readings at low rates of flow are above the upper permissible limit of error. To offset this the deflectors are given an initial deflection in a direction opposite to the directional rotation of the rotor. For meters having relatively short-bladed rotors, the meter readings are below the lower permissible limit of error. The deflectors in this case are given an initial deflection in the same direction as the directional rotation of the rotor.
