Abstract

1,043,985. Testing fuel injection pumps. FRIEDMANN & MAIER. June 24, 1963 [Aug. 11,1962], No. 24970/63. Heading F1A. In a test stand for a fuel injection pump, the pump (not shown) under test is mounted on an overhanging bracket 3, Fig. 1, in front of a support 5 for nozzles and measuring glasses. The support 5 slidably supports a frame 9, 10, 11 by half-shells 12, and the measuring glass holder 13 is slidably supported in the frame 9, 10, 11 by half-shells 14. This enables the frame 9, 10, 11 and measuring glass holder 13 to be extended clear of the pump to positions 11<SP>1</SP> and 131 respectively for reading the liquid levels in the glasses, and to be retracted to the position 11<SP>11</SP> and the one shown, respectively. The frame 9, 10, 11 may instead be supported by channels 38, Fig. 6, and the holder 13 by rollers 41, 42 as of synthetic resin, which may be drawn toward each other by a bolt 43 and nut 46 to lock the holder 13 relative to the frame 9, 10, 11, and the latter to the support 5 by the consequential outward movement of the guide rods 9, 10. The support 5 has an arm 16 which extends perpendicularly to the series of nozzles and is provided with a longitudinal slot which receives a pin 17 fixed to the bench 1. The support 5 is thereby adjustable laterally of the bench 1 and when in its fully laterally extended position it may be rotated about the pin 17 to the other side of the bench 1. Stops 47 and a locking nut or handle 21 are provided. A detachable bridge piece 20 permits removal of the support 5. For emptying the contents of the measuring glasses into a pan 23 on the holder 13 a frame which carries the measuring glasses in the holder 13 is first partly rotated about a shaft 35 away from a transparent wall 31, of polymethacrylate resin, to provide sufficient clearance therefrom before it is rotated about a shaft 32 by handles 33. Abutments 36 on the shaft 35 co-operate with a rail 37 to prevent rotation of the frame when the holder 13 is in an extended inoperative position. The pan 23 has an outlet leading to a pan in the base 7 of the support 5, which outlet is provided with a spring-loaded one-way valve 24 having a downwardly extending plunger which runs up a guide rail to open the valve 24 when the holder 13 is moved to its retracted operative position.
