Abstract

1,043,955. Oil-bath air filter. ROCKWELL-STANDARD CORPORATION. March 9, 1965 [March 9, 1964], No. 10041/65. Heading B1T. An air filter for an I.C. engine intake comprises a housing with an annular inlet 64, an oil sump filled up to level 78, an oil wetted wire mesh filter element 68, a dry, resin-impregnated, annular, pleated paper filter element 80, a central outlet 14 and a conical baffle 70 directing incoming air on to the oil surface. A perforated cylindrical baffle 76 depends from baffle 70 into the oil, which is said to only partly penetrate filter element 68. The oil sump is annular, being limited by outer bowl 10 and upright wall 28 of an inner bowl 24. The cover 44 is secured to support 58 by a wing nut 52 and when removed carries element 68 and baffles 70, 76 to expose element 80. Elements 68, 80 are sealed by seals 38 and 84, 86. The bottom corner of bowl 10 is provided with circumferentially spaced depressions 23, forming restricted parts of the annular inlet passage with baffle 70 to accelerate the incoming air and facilitate oil entrainment
