Abstract
1,043,531. Drilling. H. HOBHOUSE. Oct. 1, 1962 [July 1, 1961], No. 23831/61. Heading B3C. A drilling machine comprises a hydraulic motor 6 for rotating a drill, the exhaust fluid being supplied to a ram 12 to feed the drill and means 9 for reversing the effect of the exhaust fluid if the torque on the motor exceeds a predetermined amount. When excessive torque operates the valve 9, the drill is withdrawn until a switch 13 is operated which causes drill feed to be resumed. Pressure is indicated by a gauge 15. In a modification, increased torque first causes a relief pressure to be supplied through a valve 47, Fig. 2A (not shown), but a further increase causes valve 9 to be reversed by actuation of a pressure switch 53 and to withdraw the drill. As the feed pressure drops, a switch 55A is released so that when switches 57, 57A are actuated by a plate 56, a relief valve 58 is opened, the valve 9 is reversed and the drill is advanced at rapid speed. When the switch 55A is again actuated, the valve 58 is closed and normal feed continues under the control of a throttle valve 48. Several bench or hand drills can be operated simultaneously.
