Abstract

1,042,282. Sawing. J. N. BRASSEY. Feb. 12, 1965 [Feb. 17, 1964], No. 6469/64. Heading B5L. [Also in Division A1] A unit for adapting, for hedge cutting, a chain saw having a cutting chain 3 having an upper and bottom run, comprises a part for attachment to the guide bar of the saw and having a plurality of fingers 6 spaced apart along the length of the part, the fingers being adapted to extend downwardly across and beyond the bottom run of the cutting chain of the saw to provide projections serving as abutments to twigs, stems and the like when the saw is used for hedge cutting to hold the twigs or the like against travel with the saw chain while being cut. The attachment part consists of a pair of plates 5 having recesses 5a for receiving the limbs 6a, 6b of the fingers which are joined together at their outer extremities and formed with bulged-out portions 6c providing clearance for the saw. The unit is mounted with one plate on each side of the guide bar and secured thereto by bolts passing through holes 7, 8. The fingers are inclined forwardly in the downward direction and provided with notches. The fingers may be formed by two limbs welded or hinged together at their outer extremities, by a single piece of metal bent at the outer extremity, or be integral with the bars.
