Abstract

1,042,150. Luminescent screens. SYLVANIATHORN COLOUR TELEVISION LABORATORIES Ltd. Nov. 1, 1963 [Nov. 7, 1962], No. 42135/62. Heading H1D. A method of producing a luminescent screen comprises preparing a transfer 10, Fig. 1 (not shown), including a sheet 11 of flexible material, a layer 15 of electron-permeable, light-reflective material and a layer 17 containing luminescent material, applying the transfer to a face plate 18 with the help of a tacky adhesive, removing the flexible sheet 11 while leaving the luminescent material and light-reflective material in position on the face plate and baking the face plate to remove volatiles. To produce a colour screen, the transfer 10 is built up by attaching a polyester film 11 to a vacuum forming frame 20, Fig. 2 (not shown), by means of adhesive and then applying:-(a) a photoresist coat 12; (b) a coating 13 of 0À2% nitrocellulose in butyl and amyl acetates; (c) a pattern of lines 14 of a beam index phosphor, located and printed by a photo-resist technique; (d) a coating of aluminium, applied by vaporization; (e) a further coating 16 of nitrocellulose in butyl and amyl acetates; (f) a pattern of lines 17 of three colour phosphors R, G and B. The frame 20 cramping the transfer 10 is then placed with a rubber gasket 21 in contact with the face plate 18 to which a tacky adhesive has been applied. The space below the transfer is evacuated via ducts 22 and a pipe 23 to draw the transfer into contact with the face plate 18 whereupon the transfer 10 is cut from the frame 20 and the film 11 stripped off.
