Abstract
1,041,630. Combination ball-point pen; fountain pen. E. N. DORNA, and O. SANTACRUZ. Sept. 15, 1964, No. 37712/64. Heading B6P. A combination retractable ball-point pen and fountain pen comprises a fountain pen section A and a ball-point section B. The fountain pen section A has a barrel 2 which partly houses a replaceable ink cartridge 1. The ink cartridge is provided with a tubular extension 5, either integrally formed with the reservoir part of the cartridge, Fig. 6 (not shown), or separately formed to frictionally engage the rear end of the reservoir, Fig. 4 (not shown). The ball-point section B has a barrel 3 provided with internal screw-threads 10 which co-operate with external screw-threads 11 on the ball-point cartridge 6. The rear end of the ball-point cartridge 6 is provided with a radial lug 13 which engages an axial slot 14 in the tubular extension 5. Relative rotation of the two barrels 2 and 3 causes relative rotation of the ball-point cartridge 6 and the barrel 3 which either advances or retracts the ball-point. The barrels 2 and 3 are either connected with a bayonet joint which allows for a limited relative rotation, or both barrel rear portions are internally screwthreaded to engage external screw-threads provided on the fountain pen cartridge 1, Fig. 5 (not shown).
