Abstract
1,041,362. Stereoscopy. F. J. GATES. March 8, 1963 [March 8,1962], No. 8975/62. Heading G2J. A method of producing a stereoscopic effect comprises making two stereographic representations of an object in known manner either with a camera or by drawing and arranging these on a stereoscope so that they are side by side with adjacent edges touching after part of the region of each representation near the touching edge has been removed, see Fig. 2 in which the object is angually a set of circles C 1 or C 2 with a central rectangle. A baffle is arranged between them. The representations as viewed may be images of stereoscopic prints arranged to give the above effect. The viewer shown in Fig. 5 is made of cardboard and collapses into a flat condition. It comprises essentially two cards F with a stiffener F7 slidable between them and joined to them at F2. One end of cards F is cut and bent to form a supporting screen F 1 for the representations which are mounted on a card with a slot for engaging the part of F which forms the baffle. The other end of cards F is cut and bent to an enlargement F<SP>4</SP>. The baffle serves to prevent either eye seeing both representations. The baffle can be arranged to have a varying length that the long sighted and short sighted viewers may be accommodated, the representation is varied. In another embodiment the screen is transparent for use with transparencies. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 7 images of prints G are formed in mirror J which are slidable along baffle H to vary the amount of prints G emmited in the image to suit viewers of different intra-acular distances. The screen in Fig. 5 can be replaced by a device for holding a book of stereoscopic images.
