Abstract

[Also in Division B8] An oil tank for an internal combustion engine has a filling inlet 6 open at its lower end and having one or more relatively larger vent holes 13 below the normal level of oil in the tank, one or more relatively smaller vent holes 12 being formed at the normal level. When oil filled into the tank rises above the level of the hole 13 vented air can no longer escape freely up the inlet 6, the consequent pressure in the tank causing a rapid rise of oil within the inlet. This indication is so arranged that the oil in the inlet, on pouring being stopped, will subside to the normal full level in the tank. A bridge 11 connects the inlet to the tank wall. Overflowing oil escapes through a hole 10 into a channel 7.
