Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:1040826/C2/1> where n is an integer greater than or equal to 2, preferably 2-5. They are prepared by treating the appropriate chloroformate, obtained by reacting phosgene with the appropriate chlorohydrin, with sodium peroxide. In an example, 4-chlor-butan-1-ol is added to liquid phosgene to yield 4-chlorbutylchloroformate which on treatment with aqueous sodium peroxide gives di-(4-chlorbutyl)-peroxydicarbonate.ALSO:Peroxydicarbonates of the general formula <FORM:1040826/C3/1> where n is an integer greater than or equal to 2, preferably 2-5, are used as catalysts for the polymerization of vinyl compounds, especially the suspension copolymerization of vinylidene and vinyl chlorides. Examples use di-(4-chlorbutyl or 3-chlorpropyl)-peroxydicarbonate.
