Abstract

1,040,714. Buckles. F. L. DAVIS. April 29, 1963 [April 27, 1962], No. 16743/63. Heading E2A. A safety belt buckle includes a frame of channel form, a pivotally arranged release lever 13 and a latching plate 17 influenced by a spring 24 and adapted to enter into latching engagement with an opening 21 of a web end fitting 22, side walls 11, 12 of the frame having opposed triangular slots 16, the release lever having side walls 14 with triangular slots 15 corresponding to and in alignment with the triangular slots 16 in the side walls of the frame when the lever is in latching position in the frame, and the latching plate having end portions 18 of reduced width extending through the triangular slots in the side walls, the spring 24 being located above the latching plate for pressing a central portion thereof downwardly against the frame. The spring 24 is of V-shape and is trapped between the latching plate 17 and a guide bar 25 which is connected to the side walls of the frame. When the release lever is raised the engagement of the triangular slots 15 with the end portions 18 of the latching plate causes the plate to pivot in the slots 16 so raising the latching portion from engagement with the opening 21 in the web end fitting. When the release lever is in the latching position an end portion of the spring is in engagement with the lever to prevent rattling. The frame is provided with two slidable bars 37, 38 around which the opposite end of the web to that engaged with the end fitting is wrapped, the bars sliding in slots 41 in the side walls of the frame. The ends of the bar 37 are extended to form finger grips by which the bar may be moved away from the bar 38 to allow adjustment of the webbing.
