Abstract
1,040,116. Cutting crops. ROTARY HOES Ltd. July 12, 1965 [June 15, 1964], No. 24658/64. Heading A4C. [Also in Division A1] A machine for cutting sisal boles or like heavy plant residue and delivering the cut fragments to the ground comprises upper and lower endless conveyers 30, 23 which define therebetween a throat through which the boles are fed to rotary cutters 58 cooperating with a ledger blade 59, the upper conveyer 30 being spring biased 42 towards the lower conveyer 23 to firmly hold the boles in the throat and the lower conveyer 23 being downwardly inclined to its leading end at which the boles are picked up as the machine moves forwardly. The forward end of the lower conveyer 23 is supported by a crank arm 14 driven from a winch 17 to provide a height adjustment by pivoting the conveyer 23 about its front end, and is provided with outwardly flared skids between which the boles are guided to an adjustable ledger blade 21 co-operating with a circular knife to cut the boles at ground level. The knives 58, 22 and the conveyers 30, 23 are all driven from the power take off shaft 13 of a tractor A which carries the machine at one side.
