Abstract

Transparent thermoplastic materials are made by copolymerizing a mixture of styrene with an acrylic and/or methacrylic monomer, e.g. methyl methacrylate, acrylonitrile and ethyl acrylate in a latex of a butadiene-styrene copolymer containing 5 to 40% of the latter, the ratio of styrene and the other monomer being selected so as to yield a copolymer, the refractive index of which is equal or close to that of the butadiene-styrene copolymer, the quantities of the starting materials being chosen so that the resulting composition contains 4 to 33% by weight of butadiene-styrene copolymer and 67 to 96% of resinous copolymer.
