Abstract

<PICT:1039702/C6-C7/1> Apparatus for treating sugar syrup with sulphur dioxide gas comprises a conduit 34, 10 for the continuously flowing syrup having a constriction 24 for generating turbulence, the gas being injected into the turbulence zone through radial orifices 32 which communicate with an annular manifold 26 and a gas supply pipe 30. Downstream of the turbulence zone there is a sleeve 40 with apertures 50 and deflector 48 whereby the sulphited syrup is recycled as shown by the arrows R.
