Abstract

Silicon steel sheet having a Goss texture is produced from an alloy containing in percentage by weight .Si.3.5-6.5 .Ni.2-12 .C.0.02-0.06 .V.0.05-0.3 .Fe.balance the nickel being sufficient to render the steel rollable at 100 DEG C., by subjecting the sheet to a secondary recrystallisation treatment at a temperature below that of the alpha --> alpha + gamma transformation on heating. As exemplified, the steel is hot rolled at 1000 DEG C. into sheet, followed by annealing at 900 DEG C. It is then rolled at 100 DEG C., being immersed in boiling water between each pass, with intermediate anneals at 850 DEG C. in hydrogen, and is then heated in an inert atmosphere for 15 minutes at 700 DEG C. to precipitate carbides. Finally the steel is heated in hydrogen for 24 hours at 850 DEG C. to produce the desired structure and decompose vanadium carbide.
