Abstract

1,038,519. Electric incandescent lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. May 3, 1965 [May 1, 1964 (2)], No. 18522/65. Heading H1F. [Also in Division H2] An incandescent filament lamp or other device comprises a sealed envelope of vitreous material with a protruding press seal 6 of generally I-shaped section, at least one lead-in conductor 5 hermetically sealed in the press seal and having an outer portion 10 protruding endwise therefrom, and a base contact member 12 made from sheet metal and of generally channelshaped section which is a sliding fit on a side flange 9 of the press seal, the free edges 13 of the contact member being bent towards one another to lock the member in place on the press seal against sideways disengagement and one of the free edges being provided with a tab extension 18 projecting beyond the end of the press seal and rigidly secured to the outer portion 10 of the lead-in conductor. Preferably there are two lead-in conductors and two contact members 12 both having tabs 18 on each free edge 13 to hold the portions 10 therebetween. Spring tongues 15 may be struck out from the contact members to hold the lamp in its socket. The coiled coil filament 2 (Fig. 1, not shown) is arranged within the envelope in a U-shaped configuration and is additionally supported at the bend of the U by a U-shaped wire support 7 the legs of which are embedded and supported at their free ends in the press seal 6. The cavity between the free edges 13 of each contact member and the press seal may be filled with heat-resisting cement.
