Abstract

[Also in Division E2] A series of bag closures are formed in a strip, each closure having a mouth 18 for receiving the bunched neck of a bag and the closures being joined by a weakened portion 30. The closure dispenser 49 provides a means for severing the individual bag closures and applying them to the necks 16 of flexible bags. The bunched neck is guided into the closure mouth 18 by surfaces 53 such movement rotating an arm 77 which in turn rotates a rockable latch 70 out of engagement with the closure strip allowing forward movement of said strip by pulling on the bag neck. As the bunched neck breaks contact with the arm 77 the stop lug 78 on latch 70 comes to rest on the side edge of the foremost closure, riding on this edge until it engages a notch 32 located between the first two closures. The next to foremost closure is thus halted while the foremost closure is withdrawn, thus pulling apart the two closures. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 883,771.
