Abstract
1,037,445. Filling bags; endless conveyers. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 22, 1965 [April 16, 1964], No. 15839/64. Headings B8A and B8C. A pair of parallel members 9 (Fig. 3, not shown) maintain a bag 3 (Fig. 1, not shown) in an upright position during and after filling, and impart to the bag a vibratory motion to settle the contents. In the embodiment doscribed the bag is suspended from a spring- loaded carrier 4 which moves on a track 5 to carry the bag to a filling spout 6. Here the bag is positioned between endless belts 2 (Fig. 3, not shown) behind which are positioned vibrating metal plates 9. As the bag is filled, part of the weight is taken up by an endless conveyer 1 which together with the carrier 4 moves the filled bag to a sealing station 8, the shape of the bag being maintained by sideways pressure from the conveyers 2. The conveyer belt 1 may also vibrate, and fixed plates 13 support the sides of the bag during filling. The end of the bag is held or folded by reciprocating fingers 11 and closed by sealing or stitching. The conveyers 2 may be replaced by several shorter conveyers, or by slatted conveyers or vertically disposed rollers.
