Abstract
1,036,890. Regulating fluid flow. GAS COUNCIL. Oct. 11, 1963 [July 12,1962], No. 26893/62. Heading G3H. [Also in Divisions B1 and F4]. Means for distributing hydrogen or other gas in a vessel 5 is mounted in the vessel across the direction of gas flow into the vessel, and comprises a plurality of parallel conduits 3 each containing a bed of particulate material. Each conduit has one end (the gas inlet end) closed except for a small orifice 6 and is open at its other end, the arrangement being that gas may pass into the vessel 5 only by way of the conduits. The particulate material in each conduit may be arranged in layers each having particles of uniform size; and the particle sizes in successive layers may decrease towards the open end of the conduit. As shown, the open ends of the conduits are overlaid by a perforated metal plate 8 to prevent the particulate material from being carried away by surges in the gas flow. The gas inlet ends of the conduits may be formed by a plate having perforations corresponding with the orifices 6. The particulate material may comprise broken fused silica. Examples of material sizes and gas speeds and pressures are given in the Specification.
