Abstract
1,036,586. Suction lifting devices. BERTIN & CIE. May 27, 1963 [Nov. 5, 1962], No. 21040/63. Heading B8H. Compressed air passing from a jet 7, Fig. 1, into a pipe 4 produces a reduction in pressure in the space under a plate 1 provided with a gasket 3. A non-return valve 10 which may be opened by a handle 11 prevents loss of suction if the compressed air is cut off. Fig. 2 shows a higher capacity embodiment having several jets 15 arranged around a feed pipe 6. Air is sucked out from the space below the plate 1 and emerges from between plates 12 and 1. The gasket 18 is inflated by the compressed air supply through ducts in the plate 1. Non- return valves are again provided. Partitions 17 may be provided. A highly flexible gasket 26, Fig. 3, of cellular or granular material covered with a protective layer may be combined with resilient stops 27. Alternatively a curtain-type gasket, Fig. 5, may be used or an asbestos gasket for lifting hot articles. A vapour or liquid may be used instead of compressed air.
