Abstract

1,035,749. Selective printing. NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO. May 28, 1965 [June 25, 1964], No. 22725/65. Heading B6F. Wire element printing machines; electrical input arrangements; web feeding and guiding arrangements.-A selective printer having a wire element matrix 30, the wire elements of which are selectively energized in response to output data signals to produce an electromagnetic field corresponding to the shape of characters selected, is provided with a rotatable cylinder 20, whose peripheral surface 40 is provided with a plurality of depressions containing flowable magnetic marking material. The electromagnetic field impells the flowable marking material against a record material 27, disposed between the matrix 30 and cylinder 20, to produce the characters selected. The record material is fed and guided a line at a time by rollers 28, 29 and the printed characters are fused in a fuser 32. Type-wheel machines.-In another embodiment the depressions on the rotatable cylinder 20 are replaced by engraved alpha-numeric characters 21, Fig. 7 (not shown), and the matrix 30 carries only one pole. Type-band machines.-In a further embodiment the rotatable cylinder 20 in Fig. 2, is replaced by an endless belt 41, Fig. 8 (not shown), having either a plurality of depressions or alpha-numerical characters. Type-wheels.-The rotary cylinder 20, Fig. 7 (not shown), has a magnetic layer 40 carrying the alpha-numerical characters 21, disposed on an aluminium core.
