Abstract
1,035,420. Pens for recording instruments. HONEYWELL Inc. June 22, 1965 [July 1, 1964], No. 26265/65. Heading B6P. In a pen recorder, ink is fed from a container 4 to a reservoir 10 associated with the pen 13 via two capillary tubes 15 and 17, each tube having a part thereof wound in helix fashion around the guide bar 8 of the pen carriage 9. Each helix is wound in the opposite sense to the other, so tending to cancel out any forces on the pen. The container 4, which is compressible, or at least has a compressible portion, is squeezed to prime the reservoir 10 having previously covered the air vent 20. The two capillary tubes open into the reservoir 10, Fig. 2 (not shown), and the arrangement is such that on filling the reservoir through one or both tubes a pocket of air becomes trapped above the surface of the ink. One of the capillary tubes, for instance 17, may be sealed at an end remote from the pen and not lead to the container 4.
