Abstract

1,035,112. Advancing mine roof supports. BERGBAUSTAHL G.m.b.H. Jan. 28, 1964 [Feb. 9, 1963], No. 3578/64. -Heading F1P. A method of advancing mine roof support assemblies wherein each support assembly comprises a rearward roof support and a side-by-side forward roof support guided on one another and each comprising respectively two units 1, 2 and 3, 4, comprises the steps of advancing the forward unit 1 of the rear support (positions A-A4), then the rearward unit 2 of the rear support up to the forward unit 1 (position B), then the forward unit 4 of the originally forward support (position B1) and finally the rearward unit 3 of the originally forward support up to the unit 4. Hence during advance of a unit the roof is supported by the other three units. The units each consist of a prop supporting a roof bar and each roof bar is positively guided along the adjacent roof bars of the units of the other support. The units are advanceable by double-acting advancing rams connected between the units of each support. In a modification a single ram mounted between the units of a rearward support is transferable after effecting the advance of that support to the associated front support for effecting its advance. The advance of each unit may be accomplished in steps by arranging for the advance to be carried out by jacks having a shorter extended length.
