Abstract

1,034,562. Dehorning cattle. S. M. PERKINS. March 11, 1964, No. 10227/64. Heading A5R. A dehorning device comprises a blade 3 fixed between two side members 1 of a frame 2, a blade 4 slidable between the side members towards and away from the fixed blade and a hydraulic jack 10,11 secured to the frame and having a plunger 11 secured to the movable blade for maring it towards the fixed blade. The blades have re-entrant angular or concave cutting blades which face one another. The frame is generally U-shaped, the closed end 1a being of tubular material and forming a handle. The side members 1 are made from flat strips which define slots 9 in which the movable blade is slidable. Alternatively, the side members are tubular (not shown), the movable blade being secured at each end to tubular sleeves which are slidable on the side members. The cylinder 10 of the jack is secured between the side members and hashy draulic fluid supply hoses 14. In the event that the jack is single-acting, the plunger is extended against a return spring controls for the jack are mounted on the device or on a pump supplying hydraulic fluid. A second handle 15 is provided adjacent the movable blade.
