Abstract

A power driven slicing knife for meat and other foods, comprises a pair of counter-reciprocated, facing blades 12, 13 having tongs 18, 19 releasably engaged in the handle 10, 11, the handle having manually operable blade release means, e.g. knob 66, and the drive including a pair of rotary cams 42, 43 which are 180 degrees out of phase. The tongs 18, 19 are releasably mounted in carriers 22, 23 having side openings 31 to receive inturned spring arms 35 of a pair of blade retainers, the arms 35 being apertured to receive spigots 20 on the side faces of the tongs 18, 19 for a driving engagement. The upper ends 34 of the retainers may be pushed apart by moving the knob 66 against the resilience of the retainer to disengage the spigots 20 and thereby release the blades. In an alternative release mechanism (Fig. 10, not shown), a spring button 73 has a conical end engaged between the ends 34 of the retainers. Driver bars 36 are secured one to each carrier 22, 23 and are each formed at the free end with a pair of facing flanges 38, 39 having a cam 42 or 43 engaged therebetween. The cams 42, 43 are mounted on a common shaft 41 with a gear 40 driven by a motor 55 through a worm 58, whereby the cams 42, 43 when driving- ly rotated counter-reciprocate the driver bars 36 by the continual engagement with the flanges 38, 39. A finger switch 59 in the motor circuit is spring biassed to the open position.
