A road-vehicle-carrying boat incorporates within itself road wheels 39, Fig. 1 (not shown), and a stem towbar whereby it can travel by road with the hull 2 as a trailer towed by the same road vehicle 1, in this case a Land Rover, that it carries and uses as its motive power when afloat. In the illustration of Fig. 1, the boat, the hull of which is of catamaran design and which has saloon accommodation 3 forward, has approached the beach or slipway stern first until the extended jockey wheels 8 ground firmly. Transom flap 6 is lowered and on disconnecting the drive, which comprises extension shaft 9, sprocket 10 and chain 11, from the Land Rover to marine gear-box 12 and screw 11, the cooling arrangements, the throttle and electrical connections, the Land Rover is reversed ashore. On reaching the appropriate position the boat towbar is attached to a towball on the front bumper of the Land Rover and the boat is drawn out of the water. When clear the boat is attached to the Land Rover in the normal forward towing position. Means are also provided for transfer of the boat from water to land on a low jetty or river bank and vice versa. In an alternative arrangement the saloon accommodation space is used to carry a second small vehicle, in which case part of the bow surface is designed as a folding hatch to hinge forward about its lower edge so that this second small car can be run ashore or re-embarked without disturbing the Land Rover.
