Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:1033902/C2/1> in which R1 is an alkyl radical of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R2 and R3 are each hydrogen or an alkyl radical of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, R4 is an alkyl radical of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and R5 is chlorine, bromine, methoxy or methylmercapto but excluding the compounds 2-(N-methoxy-N-methylamino)-, 2-methoxyamino-, and 2-(N-ethoxy - N ethylamino) - 4 - isopropylamino-6 - chloro - 1,3,5 - triazine, and 2 - (N - ethoxy-N - ethylamino) - 4 - ethylamino - 6 - chloro-1,3,5-triazine. The compounds are prepared by the progressive substitution of the halogen atoms in cyanuric chloride or bromide, e.g. by reaction with R2NHOR1, then with R3NHR4, and then with HR5. The order of substitution may be changed, but when R5 is chlorine or bromine only two substitution reactions are required. Numerous examples are given. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 992,339 and 1,001,665.ALSO:Herbicidal compositions comprise a compound of formula <FORM:1033902/A5-A6/1> in which R1 is C1-4 alkyl, R2 and R3 are each hydrogen or C1-6 alkyl, R4 is C1-6 alkyl, and R5 is Cl, Br, CH3O or CH3S, but excluding certain specified compounds, and solid or liquid carriers, solvents, emulsifiers, and/or adjuvants. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 992,339 and 1,001,665.
