Abstract
In order to increase the refractive index of glass particles of less than 2 mm. in diameter, e.g. glass beads of 0.25 mm. in diameter, the composition contains at least 25% by weight of titanium dioxide and the particles are heated to a temperature between 450 DEG and 1100 DEG C. and at least 300 DEG C. below the liquidus temperature whereby an exothermic reaction occurs and raises the temperature a further 10-50 DEG C. to cause slight nucleation but insufficient to result in excessive crystallization.
