Abstract

1,029,317. Abrasive tools. R. J. AMOS. March 5, 1965 [June 26, 1964], No. 26509/64. Heading B3D. [Also in Division F2] A coupling for connecting an abrasive disc to a shaft comprises a first part including a glass fibre reinforced nylon body 12 screwed on to a driven shaft 3 and having three ribs 12B engaging grooves 13B in the neck 13A of a backing member 13; a lip 12C of body 12 engages the member 13 to hold the member against a spacing collar 9; the second part of the coupling comprises a disc of a plastics material having a radially serrated face to which an abrasive disc 4 is stuck, and having one or more axially extending projections 8 each having a lip 8A. The body 12 has a corresponding number of recesses comprising a curved portion 14 with a wall inclined to the axis of body 12, Fig. 8, and a curved portion 15 with a wall parallel to this axis, the portions being separated by a ridge 16. To make the coupling, each projection is axially inserted into portion 15 and then disc 5 is rotated to engage the projection with portion 14 which forces the projection or projections radially inwards to grip a boss 7 on shaft 3, the lip or lips 8A engaging in an annular recess 11. Reverse rotation and axial movement disconnects the coupling.
