Abstract

A core material for wallboard comprises gypsum and a binder of a starch ether or ester having a water fluidity value of at least 50 and a degree of substitution of 0.01 to 0.04, both terms being defined. In addition, gums, ureaformaldehyde resins, raw starch accelerators, fibres, and foamants, e.g. sodium abietate and alkyl aryl sulphonates, for cellularity can be included.
