Abstract
102,865. Linstead, H. N., and Linstead, R. P. April 5, 1916. Board games.-Apparatus for playing parlour war games of skill comprises a structure having a number of playing-boards, each board having a playing-surface marked differently from another board, and pieces, models, or tokens for use therewith. The boards may be arranged one above the other, or adjacently, in a frame. Fig. 1 shows three boards A, B, C arranged in a tier and representing submarine, high-seas, and aerial manoeuvring areas respectively. With a submarine and high-seas warfare game, the boards A, B only are employed. The " high-seas " board B may be divided by longitudinal and transverse lines, and pieces representing transports, cruisers, &c. may move to and from station at the intersections 8 of these lines. The board A may be divided by transverse and longitudinal lines, and the stations at the intersections of these lines may correspond with lettered submarine emerging and submerging stations on the board B. The pieces or tokens may carry working models, such as spring guns. The board A forms the bottom of a box a, and the boards B, C are supported by foldable side frames b, c. The board C has a surrounding frame p which depends over the upper ends of the frames c. The boards, side frames, playing-pieces, &c. all pack into the box a. One or more of the upper boards may be made of glass or other transparent or translucent material. A playing-area may be partly or entirely obscured from one party to the game by a three-fold screen, which may have pegs to engage in holes in the boards. Or a screen with end leaves hinged to a middle part and suspended by clips from the upper board, so that the lower playing-area can be seen only from the open side, may be used. The screens may be of translucent material.
