Abstract

1,027,629. Cine film cassettes TECHNICOLOR CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Oct. 17, 1963 [Oct. 19, 1962], No. 39625/62. Heading G2E. [Also in Divisions B6 and G5] In a cassette for an endless 8 mm.film or other recording strip, in which the film is coiled in spiral form 32 with a loop passing from the inner to the outer convolution, the film 18 is coiled on a cylindrical core 16 which is rotated at a peripheral speed not less than the linear speed of the film drawn from the inner convolution. The cassette, which may be of plastics material such as Perspex (Registered Trade Mark) comprises a cylindrical casing 10 with an extension 11 at one side and has a spindle 12 on which is journalled the core 16 overlying a disc 15. A disc 19 retains the film coil on core 16 and has a central aperture of greater diameter than that of core 16 through which the film passes. The inner edge 21 of this aperture is partly received by a groove 20 in the core 16 and is partly guided by flanges 22, 23 of rollers 24, 25 on cover 28 of the case 10. Film from the inner convolution of coil 32 passes under roller 24, over roller 25 and then round the friction surface, which may be rubber, of a drum 30, before passing round the drum 34 rotating on spindle 35 and driven by contact with driven rollers through slots 36 in cover 28. The drum 30, which has a diameter slightly less than that of core 16, is driven by the motion of the film, and rotates core 16 through the driving connection of a spiral spring 33 secured to the core by a peg 29 and to the axis of the drum. From the drum 34, the film passes through gate 44 and returns to the outer convolution of coil 32. The rotation of core 16 avoids the build-up of tension in the coils of the film spiral. A sound pick-up 37 is provided.
