Abstract

1,027,589. Dielectric heating. FITCHBURG PAPER CO. June 4, 1964, No. 23201/64. Heading H5H. [Also in Division F4] In apparatus for drying a web 10 in a H.F. field, the web passes on rollers 12 above a framework 20 mounted on wheels 18 for movement transverse of the web, which framework carries a vertically adjustable platform 24 carrying earthed rods or electrodes 30 on vertical supports 26, and on vertical supports 42 a R.F. plate 44 carries and energizes rods or electrodes 50. The electrodes 30 and 50 are coplanar, alternate with each other and are transverse to the direction of travel of the web. A capacitator plate 52 is adjustably mounted beneath the R.F. plate to vary the intensity of the field by movement relative thereto by elevators 54 on the platform 24. The electrodes 50 are energized by connection to an R.F. generator and transformer (not shown) in either a permanent or detachable manner and the electrodes 30 are detachably connected to the earthing member to allow the apparatus to move relative to the web and R.F. generator. The electrodes may be positioned at one or both sides of the web.
