Abstract

An ultraviolet and weather resistant terpolymer consists essentially of at least 15% by weight of methyl methacrylate, at least 25% by weight of acrylonitrile and at least 40% by weight of styrene, the terpolymer having an A.S.T.M. melt index not exceeding 1 gram per 10 minutes at 425 DEG F. and 250 p.s.i. The above monomers are copolymerized in water containing as dispersing agent Na3PO4 and CaCl2, a surface active agent dodecylbenzene sodium sulphonate, and a catalyst lauroyl peroxide to give a product in bead form. The bead product is purified by steam distillation followed by acidification and washing with water.
