[Also in Division B6] A film feeding and clamping device, especially for use in type composing machines in which composed matter is photographed, comprises a reciprocable slide 2 mounted on a main frame 1 carrying a feeding device and clamping device for arresting the film during exposure. As shown, the slide 2 is supported on guide rails 4 of circular cross section by means of rollers 5, supported in brackets 6 on the slide. The slide has a shaft 10 driven by a motor 11 through reduction gearing 12 both supported on the slide. Springs 13 pull the slide 2 into contact with adjustable abutment screws. The shaft 10 has a cam 16 which by engagement with an adjustably mounted roller 17 displaces the slide against the action of springs 13, the position of the roller 17 and thus the stroke of the slide being adjusted by knurled head 20 on screw 18. Rollers 25, 26, Fig. 2 (not shown) grip the film 27 during rearward displacement of the slide to prevent rewind on roll 28 within casette 29. The roller 25 is depressed by a resilient arm 24 engaged by a cam 23, Fig. 1, at the left hand end of shaft 10. A similar mechanism, actuated by a cam 30 is provided at the right hand end of shaft 10. A cam 32, Fig. 5 (not shown) depresses a stud 33 against the action of a spring 37 to cause a needle 35 to penetrate the film within a slot 36. Cams 32 and 16, Fig. 1, are so timed that needle 35 penetrates the film before forward movement of the slide 2, and permits retraction before return of the slide. Cams 38 actuate a pressure plate 39 Fig. 4 (not shown) which when depressed holds the film flat and in correct position over an opening 40 through which the film is exposed. Discs 21 and 22 on the shaft 10 control flash and the camera shutter for such exposure.
