Abstract
The invention comprises disperse azo dyes of formula <FORM:1025059/C4-C5/1> which contain neither acid water-solubilizing groups nor metal-complex-forming groups and wherein A is an optionally substituted phenyl radical which may contain an arylazo group but which may not contain a hydroxy or acyloxy group in a position adjacent to the amino group and to the azo bond respectively, B is an optionally substituted arylene radical and R is an alkyl radical of at least four carbon atoms or an optionally substituted aryl radical. The dyes are prepared by coupling a diazotized phenylamine with an appropriately substituted 1 - aryl - 3 - methyl - 5 - pyrazolone or by reacting an azo compound of formula <FORM:1025059/C4-C5/2> wherein X is chlorine or bromine with an alkanol or phenol R-OH. The dyes may be used to colour synthetic fibres such as cellulose acetate, polyester, polyacrylonitrile and polyamide fibres in yellow shades. They may also be used to colour such materials in the mass (see Division B5) and also printing inks and lacquers. Examples are given.
