Abstract

A process for manufacturing shoulder padding comprises needling individual layers together, at least one of the layers being of fibrous structure. The shoulder padding comprises superposed layers of, for example, foam material 1 and fleece, e.g. cottonwool 2 ft, 2 inch. The covering layers 3 ft, 3 inch may be attached by needling, sewing or by means of a bonding agent applied to the outer surfaces of the filling layers 2 ft, 2 inch, Fig. 2 (not shown). The ends of the fibres pushed out of the fibrous structure may be fixed by means of a bonding agent sprayed on the external surface of the fibre layer after the needling process. The padding may also be passed through a steam press to receive its final shape and also to fix the fibre ends pushed out of the fibrous structure. If more than three layers are employed, the padding may be needled from both sides.
