Abstract

1,024,050. Valves. BRITISH THERMOSTAT CO. Ltd. Feb. 25, 1965 [March 4, 1964], No. 9145/64. Heading F2V. A three-position operating stem 1 controls a rotary-disc valve 3 and the setting of a thermally-responsive valve 32 actuated by a bellows 33; in the " off " position the stem is prevented from moving by a pin held between two projections in the cover 4. Upon depressing the stem, turning it anti-clockwise and then releasing it the stem occupies the second position in which the disc valve connects a gas supply with a first main-burner via a first outlet; the axial stem movement actuates a pilot valve 20 in the supply to a pilot burner, and an electric switch in the pilot burner igniter circuit. In this position the pin is held between cover projections. When the stem is again depressed and rotated clear of the projection, the igniter and pilot burner are again operated and the stem may be rotated up to a projection 15. In this third position the supply is connected to the first and a second outlet 39; the thermally responsive valve 32 is in the flow path to the outlet 39. The pilot valve is actuated by a disc 7 on the stem via a lever 17 which disc also operates the electric switch. The thermally responsive valve 32 is acted upon by a spring 31, the loading of which is varied by rotation of the disc valve 8 through the squared end of a range spindle 29 that co-operates with a splined plate 28 in the valve 8.
