Abstract
Polyureas polyurethanes and polyhydrazides are prepared by condensing isocyanates of the formula <FORM:1023390/C3/1> wherein y is 0 or 1, x is 2, 3 or 4 and R is the hydrocarbon radical of a polymeric saturated or unsaturated monobasic aliphatic or cycloaliphatic carboxylic acid having in the monomer form a hydrocarbon radical of 8 to 24 carbon atoms, with diols, polyfunctional phenols, diamines, diacids and dithiols, the reaction being exemplified by the reaction of diisocyanates of the above formula with piperazine, 2,5 - dimethylpiperazine, meta - xylylene diamine, trimethylene glycol, tetramethylene glycol, 1,2 - bis - (4 - pyridyl) - 1,2 - ethanediol, bis - (hydroxymethyl) - durene, para - xylene glycol, a ,a 1 - dimercapto - para - xylene, 2,4 - dinitrophenyl - hydrazine and phenyl hydrazine.ALSO:The invention comprises isocyanates of the formula <FORM:1023390/C2/1> wherein y is 0 or 1, x is 2, 3 or 4 and R is the hydrocarbon radical of a polymeric saturated or unsaturated monobasic aliphatic or cycloaliphatic carboxylic acid having in the monomer form a hydrocarbon radical of 8 to 24 carbon atoms. Isocyanates in which y is 0 are prepared by converting an appropriate polymeric acid to the acid chloride, reacting the latter with a metal azide to form the acid azide and heating the latter to effect decomposition. Isocyanates in which y is 1 are prepared by converting an appropriate polymeric acid to the corresponding nitrile, catalytically hydrogenating the latter to an amine and reacting this product with phosgene.
