Abstract

1,023,348. Joint-making packing. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 15, 1964 [Dec. 20, 1963], No. 50361/63. Heading F2B. A pressure tight joint between two members 7, 8 is made by a deformable sealing ring 9 which is permanently deformed by the pressure of the sealed fluid and is coated, at least on the areas where it contacts the members 7, 8, with a material 10 having a lower yield strength than that of the material of the sealing ring 9. The coating may be metallic, e.g. copper, lead or silver or synthetic resin, e.g. polytetrafluoroethylene or silicone rubber and the sealing ring may be of steel coated with copper or of aluminium coated with polytetrafluoroethylene.
