Abstract
1,020,644. Covering flexible tubes. SUREFLEX CO. Ltd. Dec. 31, 1964 [Oct. 4, 1963], No. 39184/63. Heading F2P. A method of covering flexible metal-sheathed tubing or flexible tubing fits the end of the said tube 24 with a stopper of larger diameter at 25 than the flexible tube and inserts them into a rigid feed-tube 10, stretches over the end of the feed-tube 10 a tube 26 of elastic plastics material, introduces air into the annular space between the flexible tube and the feed tube to force the stoppered end of the flexible tube into the elastic tube 26 whilst compressing the one and expanding the other and then releases the pressure of air inside the feed tube to allow the plastics tube to contract into the flexible tube. An annular head 13 with hinged jaws 17 can be drawn into the feed-tube 10 by a pneumatic ram 15 lifter the end of the elastic tube 26 has been stretched on to the jaws. A safety guard 18 mounted rotatably on supports 32, 33 is then drawn towards the head and rotated when in position so that a hose 22 thereon is locked behind a hook member 23 connected to the ram 15 to retain the elastic tube on the jaws as in Fig. 2. Pressure is then applied in the feed tube 10 to force the flexible tube 24 and stopper into the elastic tube. When the stopper reaches the end of the guard tube 18 a probe 28 mounted on the front end of the stopper 25 drives a block 29 mounted at 19 in a slidable rod against a stop 38. The movement of the rod actuates a valve 30 whereby the apparatus is brought back to its rest position (Fig. 1, not shown).
