Abstract
An elastomer-forming composition comprises (A) an organosilicon polymer of the formula <FORM:1020502/C3/1> wherein p and s are 0 or 1, n is an integer of at least 3, each R1 is an alkyl or aryl radical, each R is a monovalent saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon or substituted hydrocarbon radical, X is a divalent hydrocarbon radical and each A is an alkoxy or substituted alkoxy radical of less than 10 C atoms, (B) an organosilicon compound of the formula <FORM:1020502/C3/2> wherein each R11 is a mono-valent hydrocarbon or substituted hydrocarbon radical and b is O or an integer of from 1 to 35, and (C) a condensation catalyst. Known methods are described of preparing polymers (A) and compounds (B). The preferred catalysts (C) are stannous octoate and dibutyl tin di-laurate and -acetate; other catalysts mentioned are amines, amine salts, organic acids, carboxylic acid salts of quarternary ammonium hydroxides and titanium esters. Fillers, e.g. fume silica, diatomaceous earth and calcium carbonate, pigments, heat-stabilizers and other addtives, may also be added. Water, in amount, e.g. of 0.01 to 0.5 pt. (by wt.) per 100 pts. of (A) may be added as by wetting a filler prior to incorporation into the composition or by emulsification with (A) or (B). Since the components are usually mixed together just before use, any 2 of the components are preferably packaged separately from the third. Examples are given. Uses: For treating paper and textiles; as electrical insulation; and for potting, sealing and caulking applications.
