Abstract

1,019,814. Electric incandescent lamps. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 26, 1963 [Nov. 29, 1962], No. 46655/63. Heading H1F. An electric lamp with a carbon fillament contains a filling gas consisting wholly or in part of volatile carbon fluoride at a pressure or partial pressure not greater than 10 Torr, or of a fluorine compound, e.g. nitrogen fluoride, which gives carbon fluoride and an inert gas on dissociation and reaction with the carbon filament. Elemental fluorine may also be used. The lamp parts in contact with the filling gas are of fluorine resistant material. The ends of the support wires for the filament are formed as narrow tubes of nickel, copper or aluminium and enclose the ends of the filament which are thereby protected from etching by the fluorine. The lamp envelope is protected by an internal layer of evaporation-deposited magnesium or calcium fluoride.
