Abstract

1,019,285. Lamps for personal wear. AMERICAN CYTOSCOPE MAKERS Inc. June 18, 1964 [July 1, 1963], No. 25330/64. Heading F4R. [Also in Division G2] A light for attachment to the head of the user for carrying out surgical procedures, comprises a band 20 encircling the user's head, a lens housing 40 adjustably connected to the band, a light source 100 remote from the lens housing and connected thereto by a light conducting flexible bundle of fine glass fibres 70 and lens means in the lens housing for directing and focusing light on an area to be illuminated. The lamp 106 is carried on a platform 103 inside a housing 102 which also encloses a transformer 110, a rheostat 116 and a blower 120 for cooling the end of the bundle 70 which is provided with a plug 80 engaging in a finned jack 90 in the housing. The bundle 70 may be manufactured as described in Specification 993,322. The front end of the bundle 70 is secured in a sleeve 48 which is screwed into a tube 41 carrying a lens 42. A hemi-spherical lens (not shown) is arranged in front of the end of the bundle, relative movement of the two lenses enabling the light to be focussed. The sleeve 48 is connected by a ball and socket joint to an arm 32 carried by a ball and socket joint 30 on the band 20.
