Abstract
Aqueous hydrazine solutions are concentrated by removing water therefrom by permeation through cellulosic membranes. The process comprises introducing an aqueous hydrazine solution to the feed zone of a permeation apparatus, which comprises a feed zone separated from a permeate zone by a membrane made from cellulose or a derivative thereof, e.g. cellulose acetate or regenerated cellulose, and recovering from the feed zone and permeate zone solutions enriched and depleted in hydrazine respectively. Sodium chloride or sodium sulphate may be present in the initial solution. The permeate zone may have a pressure less than the vapour pressure of the permeate vapour, and the process may be carried out at 30-70 DEG C. The enriched hydrazine solution may be distilled to recover anhydrous hydrazine.
