Abstract

1,017,558. Packaging-machines; portable containers. S. B. FRANGHIA. Sept. 10, 1963 [Sept. 10, 1962], No. 36734/63. Headings B8C, B8D and B8T. [Also in Divisions B3 and B5] Covers are crimped on containers of cellulosic, synthetic plastics or metallic material by means of an upper die ring 8, which descends to turn inwards the upper edge 3d of the container flange over a cover flange 4a, and an upper die 7 which folds the edge 3d vertically downwards, Fig. 4 (not shown); the members 7, 8 then rise before the ring 8 is again lowered, this time bear. ing down on a spring-loaded lower ring 5 to deform the folded container flange inwards and the flange 4a with it. Finally the upper die 7 presses the seam flat. The members are camoperated under either manual or automatic control. The cover may be ribbed and the container wall ribbed or creased. The container may be cylindrical, frusto-conical or parallelepipedic.
